Herewith
results for Scottish Shooting Championships held on 15th
May 2005. There are very minor corrections to the results
as posted on the range.
Weather
was glorious sunshine with a tricky wind. Entry was down
a little due to other commitments of West Atholl and
Fife fullbore shooters but bolstered by a strong entry
from perennial performers Blairgowrie and newcomers the
Glens.
Alastair
Nicoll took top honours overall while sister Louise was
top lady in 4th. Not surprisingly this was enough to
lead Dad, Stewart, and the family team of three to a
team victory as well. Graeme Band led the Blairgowrie
challenge in 2nd place individually. The club divided
its strength across four teams including 2nd and 3rd
team places. Trophies for the Clay Target and Air Pistol
stages went to Alan Cumpsty and Mike Corbishley respectively.
My
thanks go to the many people who helped including Blair
Atholl Small-bore Rifle Club and Blair Atholl Gun Club
who ran the small-bore and clay target stages as well
as ever. Thanks also to all those who did their compulsory
stint in the fullbore butts or who did a stint running
the other stages.
An
inovation this year was to allow shooters to shoot fullbore
with F class rifles subject to a 10 point handicap. Although
this was only allowed because several new entrants appeared
with F class rifles not knowing the rules, I believe
it worked reasonably fairly and could be written into
the rules for next year. Comments from actual and potential
entrants would be welcome.
