West
of Scotland Open
5-6th May 2007
The
first open Scottish competition of the season was held at
West Atholl's Jubilee Range on the first weekend of May,
as usual. Saturday started with very little wind but this
soon changed and by the afternoon it was strong with rapid
major changes, the first detail at 600yds having a particularly
difficult time.
The Saturday aggregate was led by John Potter, with Mark Joyce and Philip
Lucey only one and two points behind. Rain on Sunday, combined with difficult
wind, made shooting very tricky at 900yds. There was a heavy downpour for
a major part of each of the three 20-shot details.
Only one-third of the 39 competitors broke 85 and only 5 made over 90.
John Potter produced an outstanding 97 in these awful conditions. The rain
was so heavy that at the end of the 900 yd shoot, the faces washed off
the targets and the 1000-yard shoot was cancelled.
Despite the distractions of organising the competition, John Potter won
the Q11, Q111, SRA Medal and Grand Aggregate as well as the Saturday Aggregate.
The other first place went to Tim Kidner as winner of Q1. |
