SRA Long Range Championship Results

The weekend was marked by very difficult wind. By Saturday afternoon it was so troublesome that the last shoot of the day, at 1000yds, was won with 66.6v. The exception was the first detail on Sunday, which was shot in a dead calm at 900yds. By the second detail at 10am it was as bad as ever.

Mike Barton shot consistently well over the weekend, including a winning 74.8v at 1000yds in very difficult conditions for the Irvine, giving him a well deserved win of the Grand Agg, as well the Marjorie Keir (after a very close shoot-off with John Potter) and the Saturday Agg. Tim Kidner won the Stansfield with a 74.8v in very difficult conditions, the Sunday Agg and the "Long and Short".

West Atholl 'A' (Mike Barton, Kenny MacDonald, Richard Scott and John Potter) won the Team Trophy.

2009 Open Championship and Prize Meeting
Jubilee Range - Blair Atholl on Saturday 26th September 2009
Entry Form

Note:
Contrary to what is stated on the entry form ( "2&17 shots @400m, etc"), West Atholl RC will have no truck with this continental metric nonsense. We shall shoot at British Standard Yards, as determined by the length of the monarch's arm; rather than some arbitrary measure dreamt up abroad in a haze of garlic and olive oil.

Club shoot at 400yds on a 300m target

Only 9 members turned out for this event. We had a dry shoot followed by torrential rain as we packed up. There was enough breeze to have made it interesting on a 400 yard target, but shooting from 400 yards on a 300m (10-X) display gives a 10 ring of four fifths of a minute, converting "interesting " to "humiliating".

The fine weather lasted 99% of the time.
Two thirds of the entry pose after the prizegiving. Mike Barton won the TR trophy. Bobby Robertson won F class by shooting against himself...
and Jackie MacLean did likewise in TR/F.

Tues 23 June and Thurs 25 June

Glenalmond College will be using Jubilee range from 2pm to about 5pm on the above dates, probably at 5/600yds. WARC members will be welcome to shoot alongside if they wish. No prior arrangement needed.

Here are the Results for the Scottish Championships which were held at Jubilee Range Blair Atholl using the electronic targets for the first time -- the targets worked fine for all 3 days.

The weather remained dry until the last half hour on Sunday (although the wind was diabolical for the whole 3 days apart from a couple of details). Just as the monitors etc were being put away the deluge began. There are no pictures of the prizegiving as the torrential rain meant that it had to be held in Baithna (the green Portacabin at 1100yds), where the crush made it impossible for cups to be handed to winners or for cameras to be used.

Alastair and Molly were married for 62 years.

Molly’s funeral was held on Wednesday, 3rd June

Course of Fire for Club Shoots 2009
Following decisions made at the last AGM we shall try the following in 2009.

Each Club shoot will be at two distances and at each distance we shall shoot 2+15 twice: 60 counting shots in total, 70 rounds needed to allow for sighters and a couple of spares (new members, visitors etc can, of course, shoot fewer if they wish).

The two sets of 2+15 at each distance will not be shot consecutively. One pair per target will shoot their first 2+15, then another pair will shoot, and so on until everyone has shot their first 2+15, after which the second 2+15 at the same distance will be shot before moving to the second distance.

We decided to abandon the 300m firing point, so the “3/400” Club shoot will be shot as follows: 2+15 twice from the 400yd firing point using a 400yd target display, then 2+15 twice from the same firing point on a 300yd target display. This will be described in the programme as “400/300@400”.

The HPS for the Butter Cup, Christie Rose Bowl, Norwich Union Trophy and Murray Cup will be 300. For the Munro Broadsword, Seann a-Bhalaith Atholl and TR/F Cup the HPS will be 450.

The Murray Cup course of fire will be: 2 + 15 at 4, 5, 6 and 900yds in that order.

The 300m Round Robin competition will be replaced by a 60 shot standard format shoot on a 300m metric (10X) target display at 400yds, with trophies for TR, TR/F and F class.

Until further notice the Club rules for TR/F are
  • Max weight of rifle, sights and bipod – 8.25 Kg
  • Calibre .308,.223 or .303
  • Max. Bullet weight in 308, 156 gr. No limit for 223 or 303
  • Front bipod allowed but no other front rest.
  • No rear bag or rest.
  • Minimum trigger pull 1.5Kg
  • Shooting on standard TR target with no white centre.
